When viewing the taxonomy tree or viewing the category list, it would be helpful if there were an indicator of the total number of items assigned to a category. I understand that this could cause performance issues in some setups, so perhaps this should be a configurable option that can be turned on and off as needed.
I would also be fine if it was added to the sidebar that loads when selecting a category.
For my use case, I would mainly want to see what categories had 0 items, and thus would not show up on our custom storefront (which automatically hides categories with no items)
Hi Pearce, that’s a valid use case.
At the moment, we don’t support displaying item counts directly on the taxonomy screen, primarily because a single taxonomy can be assigned to multiple catalogs, and the item count can vary by catalog. Showing a single number could be misleading or cause confusion in such scenarios.
As an alternative, we do offer the ability to export a taxonomy along with the item count for each category. This allows you to easily identify which categories have 0 items and make adjustments as needed.
Please see the screenshot below for where you can find the export option.
